Christopher Lucas “Luke” Norcross was a young man known for his integrity, dedication, and hard work. Raised by Chris and Carol Norcross, Luke believed that success came through perseverance. An avid outdoorsman, he loved hunting, fishing, hiking, and kayaking, but his true passion was sports. Luke played baseball, football, and lacrosse from a young age, and his love for lacrosse drove him to seek coaching from one of the nation’s top goalie coaches.
Luke played a key role in establishing lacrosse at Fluvanna County High School and competed as a goalie through his junior year. He then accepted a scholarship to Blue Ridge School, where he excelled academically and athletically, playing both football and lacrosse. Luke continued his lacrosse career at Davis and Elkins College, earning both academic and athletic scholarships. He played all four years as a goalie, leading by example and mentoring younger players.
Luke graduated in 2019 with a B.A. in Criminology, aspiring to serve the public. His dedication, leadership, and passion for helping others left a lasting legacy.
LUKE’S STORY
As he had done every summer during his breaks, Luke planned to volunteer as a coach for local travel lacrosse programs. He had also committed to assisting with the lacrosse team at Fluvanna County High School. Just days after his graduation, Luke was admitted to the hospital. Never one to complain, he had always attributed his aches and pains to his season as a collegiate goalie.
However, Luke was soon diagnosed with stage three Choriocarcinoma, a rare and highly aggressive form of testicular cancer. True to his competitive spirit, he fought relentlessly. Luke and his family traveled to Indiana to consult with a leading specialist, where he received the most advanced care available. Tragically, Luke passed away on February 6, 2020, at the age of 22. Moments before his passing, the Fluvanna County Sheriff’s Office honored him by making him an honorary deputy, fulfilling his lifelong dream.
Luke’s Legacy
We want to give back in a way that honors Luke’s legacy. Both Luke and his parents credited Blue Ridge School with igniting his passion for learning and furthering his education. We have established an endowment fund in Luke’s name at Blue Ridge School.
The Luke Norcross ’15 “Barons Reach” Endowed Scholarship Fund will provide annual funding support for one or more worthy BRS students, helping to enable their attendance at Blue Ridge.
Funding to create this Scholarship came from a group of Luke's friends and family, who attribute Luke’s fire for life, sport, and to further his education to the time he spent at Blue Ridge School. It is our hope that this endowment will help fuel the same fires of ambition for future Blue Ridge students like Luke.
